The dispatch · Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, neighbor.

October 27 – November 2, 2026

First, the civic stuff: early voting ends this Sunday. Norwalk voters can still cast a ballot at City Hall, 125 East Ave, 10 AM to 6 PM every day through Sunday, November 1, with extended hours of 8 AM to 8 PM today and Thursday, Oct 29. Election Day is next Tuesday, November 3.

Now, Halloween week. Tonight 314 Beer Garden turns into a dog runway for Boos & Barks, a costume contest and Yappy Hour benefiting PAWS. On Sunday, The Hangout Spot on East Ave opens its playrooms for free inclusive, sensory-friendly trick-or-treating. Also on deck: the Farmers Market Wednesday, trick-or-treating at Stew Leonard’s today and at City Hall Friday, Built to Spill at District Music Hall Thursday, Flower Fridays, and the PAL Halloween Fun Run near Calf Pasture on Saturday morning.

Tonight 314’s “Fear Garden” goes to the dogs. Boos & Barks is a Halloween Yappy Hour and fundraiser for PAWS, with a dog costume contest as the main event. First place takes a $100 314 gift card plus a dog swag and treat basket, second gets $50 and a basket, third gets the basket. Around the garden: fresh, locally made dog food from NouriPet, $15 nail trims from Zoomin Groomin, mini training sessions with Pawsitive Approach, live pet portraits by Cindy Latte, and pet emergency care info from VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center. Leash up, costume up, grab a beer.

It’s part of a full Halloween week at 314: a Spooky Trivia Night Wednesday, 6 to 9 PM, benefiting the Norwalk High post-graduation party, and Kid’s Fall-O-Ween Thursday, 4 to 7 PM, with a kids’ costume parade, crafts, candy stations and carnival games.

Shuck yeah · a fact from the harbor
The library filed him under “Dogs”

The pup up top has been holding his spot for over a century. Photographer John Cuneo shot the old iron Washington Street drawbridge around 1910, standing on the East Norwalk side and looking west across the river toward South Norwalk. Somebody’s dog flopped down next to a pile of planks and stayed for the exposure. The bridge didn’t last: the library’s catalog says it was replaced in 1914. The dog lives on in the Norwalk Public Library archive as catalog number PH-1305, subject headings “Bridges,” “Drawbridges” and, yes, “Dogs.” Best costume of 1910: Just A Dog.
